Stoja Art Collection Gallery at Frieze London and Frieze Masters

As we explored the fairs, we came across works by artists represented in our own collection. Seeing works by Ross Bleckner, André Butzer and Alighiero Boetti among presentations from galleries around the world connected our visit with the artists we follow and present at Stoja Art Collection Gallery.
Ross Bleckner and his distinctive floral motifs
At Frieze London, we came across a painting by Ross Bleckner featuring flowers that radiate from a dark background in bright, luminous forms. Floral imagery is one of the recurring elements in Bleckner’s work. The photograph also shows the Maruani Mercier gallery’s stand.
The American artist combines abstraction with recognisable images and symbols. His paintings often explore memory, loss and the passage of time. A work by Ross Bleckner is also part of the Stoja Art Collection Gallery collection.

André Butzer: vivid colours and expressive figures
Among the works that caught our attention at Frieze London were André Butzer’s colourful figurative paintings. In the photographs, the paintings stand out for their vivid colours, energetic brushwork and simplified figures with expressive faces.
Butzer’s work moves between figuration and abstraction, drawing on influences from art history and popular culture. His distinctive style has made him a notable figure in contemporary European painting. His work is also represented in the Stoja Art Collection Gallery collection.

Alighiero Boetti at Frieze Masters
At Frieze Masters, we also came across an embroidered work by Alighiero Boetti, the Italian conceptual artist and one of the key figures associated with Arte Povera. Boetti collaborated with craftspeople on his embroidered works. His best-known series include compositions made from letters and images, as well as embroidered world maps.
Boetti’s work is also part of the Stoja Art Collection Gallery collection. The photograph shows a densely composed work in gold and silver tones. Seeing an artist whose work is also represented in our collection at the fair added a familiar point of connection to our visit.

An international perspective on art
Frieze London and Frieze Masters offered different perspectives on art, from contemporary painting to works spanning a wider sweep of art history. Visiting both fairs gave us the chance to see how galleries present artworks and place them in conversation with works from other periods and artistic approaches.
Attending international art fairs is part of how Stoja Art Collection Gallery follows artists and developments in the global art scene. During our visit, we came across the work of artists already represented in our collection: Ross Bleckner, André Butzer and Alighiero Boetti.
At Stoja Art Collection Gallery in Ljubljana, we present works by internationally recognised artists and introduce visitors to their practice and the wider context of contemporary art.
